Rangers can sign their own KDB in Olaru

Rangers have been linked with Romanian midfielder Darius Olaru recently, and should he make the move to Ibrox this summer, he could be Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s own version of one Belgian superstar.

Reports from earlier this month suggested that the Premiership giants had been keeping a close eye on the FCSB midfielder and were considering a move after he blew away scouts with his performances.

They claim that he has been made available for €10m (£8.4m), although that price could increase depending on the club’s result in the Europa Conference League qualifiers later this month.

While £8.4m would be a significant outlay for Rangers, their coffers have recently been boosted by the departures of Joe Aribo and Calvin Bassey.

If Olaru plays even half as well as one man to whom he has been likened, then he would surely prove to be worth the fee.

The 24-year-old was compared to Manchester City star Kevin De Bruyne by FCSB chief Mihail Stoica, while former Hungary ace Vasile Miriuta also sang his praises, saying: “He is in very good shape. At this age, he should play abroad. I’m talking about a top team. He is in the best shape of his career.”

Should Rangers sign Olaru?

De Bruyne is one of the best players in the world right now and won the Premier League Player of the Season award in 2021/22 as Pep Guardiola’s side retained the title. He contributed 15 goals and eight assists in 30 top-flight appearances as he once again proved himself the standout star in a team filled with world-class talents.

Meanwhile, Olaru contributed a respectable six goals and 12 assists in all competitions last season, so he clearly likes to get forward and contribute in attack.

The Romania international is extremely versatile and can play in almost every attacking and midfield position, which suggests that he is the sort of player that Van Bronckhorst would love to have at the club.

Therefore, Ross Wilson should definitely look at bringing Olaru to Ibrox this summer.
