Phil Foden named Premier League Young Player of the Season

Phil Foden has been voted the Premier League Young Player of the Season for the season 2021-22.

After another outstanding season for the Citizens, the 21-year-old has become the first player to win the individual award in consecutive seasons.

Foden has nine goals and five assists in 27 Premier League games this season, mirroring his record from the previous season by one game.

Only Kevin De Bruyne, Bernardo Silva, and Rodri have played more Premier League minutes this season than the England international, who has featured in different roles in both midfield and attack.

Speaking to mancity.com on receiving the award, Foden said: “I am very proud to have won this award for a second season in a row. There are so many talented young players in the Premier League this season and it is a real honour to win it again.

“I have been really happy with my performances this season and it has been great to contribute to this team in what will hopefully be another successful year for us all.

“To be nominated alongside so many great players is an honour as they have all had great seasons for their clubs. I would like to thank everyone who has contributed to my development this season.”

Foden wins the accolade after receiving the most combined votes from the public and a Premier League panel.

Who did he beat?

Trent Alexander-Arnold, Aaron Ramsdale, Conor Gallagher, Tyrick Mitchell, Mason Mount, Declan Rice, and Bukayo Saka were also nominated for the award.
