Black Stars head coach Otto Addo is urging striker Felix Afena-Gyan to make the most of his surprise recall for the 2025 Unity Cup in London.
The 22-year-old, who last played for Ghana in a pre-World Cup friendly against Brazil in 2022, has been brought back into the national team setup following a decent campaign with Juventus Next Gen in Italy’s Serie C.
Afena-Gyan has scored six goals and registered three assists in 28 appearances this season, earning recognition from the technical team.
While his progress stalled after an early rise to stardom, Ghana’s head coach believes this return could help reignite his potential.
“There are a lot of young players, and he’s also young. he did well, and that’s why we want to give him another chance; he’s still young,” Otto Addo said.
“His career hasn’t been like he expected it to be, but this is normal in football. Sometimes you have ups and sometimes you have downs, and for him, it’s another opportunity for him to show himself.”
Afena-Gyan, who has one goal in seven appearances for the national team, will be looking to make the most of this fresh chance, with Ghana set to face Nigeria on Wednesday at 6:45 GMT.
