Black Starlets head coach Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum praised his players’ fighting spirit after they earned a 1-1 draw against Togo in their opening WAFU Zone B U17 Championship fixture on Sunday.

Ghana’s campaign in Yamoussoukro began in dramatic fashion when defender Gabriel Denyinah was sent off just two minutes into the contest.

Despite the early setback, the Starlets took the lead through captain Joseph Narbi, who converted a Mark Aboagye cross in the ninth minute.

Togo responded after the break, levelling from the spot through Sultan Ganiou, but Ghana stood firm with ten men to claim a point.

Dr. Ogum lauded his side’s tactical discipline and composure under pressure, describing the performance as a sign of the mentality he wants to instil.

He singled out skipper Narbi — named Man of the Match — for his leadership and crucial goal.

The coach added that the contest provided valuable lessons for his young team and promised improvements in attack ahead of their next Group A clash against hosts Ivory Coast on Tuesday.
