Director-General of the National Sports Authority, Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, has described the state of sports facilities across Ghana as “quite gloomy.”
He made the candid remark while presenting the NSA’s first official report to the newly appointed Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams.
Speaking to Joy Sports, Ankrah stressed the urgent need for action to revive the country’s ailing infrastructure.
“It’s quite gloomy, but we need to address them,” he said, citing a proposed project in Nkawkaw backed by Bryan Acheampong as an example of local initiative.
Ankrah noted that construction on the new stadium for Accra United could begin once the necessary documents are presented.
He called on private citizens, corporate bodies, and both local and foreign investors to support infrastructure development nationwide.
“I think it’s a good initiative and intervention and would encourage citizens, corporate Ghana, individuals, you know, investors, local and foreign, to come on board and support us in this quest.
“It’s taken years to get to that poor state, and it will take years to fix it. So, we need to be very patient and thorough and deliberate in the way we address these challenges,” he added.
