What’s happened so far?

Kylian Mbappe has proven himself to be one of the most impressive talents that football has ever seen and has displayed visible unrest at his current club Paris Saint Germain over the past couple of years, resulting in much speculation about his next destination. Naturally, Real Madrid is the club on everyone’s lips as their era of having an experienced and older team is nearly over, with the torch being passed to a rank of plenty of young players who are taking Madrid into a new age.

The talk of a move to the Spanish capital looked dead and buried when Mbappe signed a contract extension at PSG in the summer of 2022, but two years down the line the move looks to be back on and we could see him as the newest Galactico sooner than we thought.

There’s no doubt that Mbappe will be looking at Jude Bellingham and the impact he has had on Los Blancos with a hint of jealousy, but the Frenchman is unlikely to allow this deal slip through the net a second time. The thought of those two combining forces is exactly what Carlo Ancelotti will be pining after, developing the existing young players in the squad with sights set on nabbing the best talents around the world with a vision to create an outfit of all-stars.

Another twist in the tale was when Mbappe was approached by Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal who offered him a staggering £259 million to join their side, which would have been a world record fee. Had Mbappe taken that deal, he would have joined the wealth of players who have opted for the move to Saudi, with potential teammates in Neymar, Kalidou Koulibaly, Ruben Neves, Sergej Milinković-Savić and former Ligue 1 competitor Renan Lodi.

Recent updates

Mbappe’s contract with the Parisian giants expires in June and having scored a record number of goals for them in his six-year stint there, on 251, his next chapter looks to be at Santiago Bernabeu Stadium. Reports emerged in February earlier this year that he is set to sign a five-year deal with the Spanish outfit earning £12.8 million a season, plus a £128 million signing-on to be paid over the five years.

Should this transfer happen, Mbappe will add some additional potency to the existing strength of the star-studded Real Madrid team, alongside Jude Bellingham, Vinicius Jr. and Rodrygo to name but a few.

As it stands, Real Madrid are still in pursuit of their 15th Champions League title facing-off against Man City in the quarter final and, should they dismiss the Premier League champions without the daunting presence of Mbappe in their ranks, one can only imagine how strong that team would be with the addition of the Frenchman.
