Management of Hearts and Kotoko are responsible for the shambolic displays in Africa – Fred Pappoe

Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko’s continuous poor displays in Africa is caused by their management, this is according to former Ghana Football Association (GFA) chairman Fred Pappoe.

According to him, the management of the two clubs’ failure to keep players at the end of every season has not been helpful.

In his view, the decision to constantly dismantle the squad of their teams at the end of every season weakens them and hence their inability to compete on the continent.

“The most prominent reason why our clubs especially Kotoko and Hearts fail in the African club competitions is that the team that qualifies them for Africa is mostly dismantled by the clubs themselves before the start of the competition.

“Typical example is what Hearts did, you can’t sack Samuel Boadu with a week to Africa without appointing a new head coach, who does that?

“Kotoko also sold most of their players and when you do that, definitely you will be kicked out.

“We (Ghanaians clubs) end up destroying and killing ourselves before the competition,” Fred Pappoe told Akoma FM in an interview.

The bad performance of Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko has become topical in recent weeks when both teams have been active in the Confederation Cup and Champions League respectively.

Last month, Asante Kotoko was knocked out of the CAF Champions League by RC Kadiogo at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.

After suffering a 3-0 hammering at the hands of AS Real Bamako, Hearts of Oak also risk crashing out of the CAF Confederations Cup if the team fails to overturn the scoreline in the reverse fixture to be staged on Sunday, October 16.
