Former Willie Klutse, a 1978 AFCON winner with the Black Stars, has advised young Ghanaian talents playing abroad to remain disciplined and focused on their careers to avoid serious legal troubles.

Klutse’s remarks follow reports that former Thomas Partey has been charged with two additional counts of rape, bringing the total to five rape charges and one count of sexual assault in the UK, according to the Crown Prosecution Service.

Speaking to Citi Sports, Klutse emphasized the importance of planning for life beyond football and heeding advice from mentors.

“You have a reason why you want to play football and based on it you have travelled outside the country. Just keep your focus,” Klutse said.

“When they advise you and you can’t take it. Why should we invest in your time and your career? So, they have to focus. They have to know why they travel, they have to know what they want out of football.

“Because football, the latest is 15 years, you are finished with football. Serious and active football, 15 years, you can’t be the same. So, they have to keep their focus and know what they want out of football.”

Klutse remains an active figure for the Black Stars, who are set to face England in the 2026 FIFA World Cup group stage in the United States. Meanwhile, legal proceedings involving Partey continue in the UK.
