Black Starlets’ defensive improvement pleases assistant coach

Assistant coach of the Black Starlets, Nana Kweku Agyemang, says the team’s recent clean sheets show the impact of hard work on the training ground.

The Starlets secured a narrow win over Division One League leaders Port City, with captain Joseph Narbi scoring the decisive early goal.

They followed it up with a 2-0 victory against Koforidua Semper Fi at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The Semper Fi result came after another 1-0 triumph over Port City earlier the same day.

Reflecting on the performances, Agyemang said the technical team wanted to assess the players’ reactions against strong lower-tier opposition.

“We want to know how they react when they are playing against these sides. The fact that they didn’t concede, that’s good. But I mean, last week we played against Na God and another team. I think we conceded in both games.

“Although we still won, but we conceded in both games. So, the fact that this time around they didn’t concede, it tells a lot about the work that we are doing at the moment. I think that the boys did well”

He noted that earlier matches saw the team concede despite winning.

The recent defensive solidity, he believes, is a positive sign ahead of the 2026 U-17 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

The technical team continues to focus on improving fitness and tactical discipline as the tournament approaches.
