Mamelodi Sundowns’ technical director Trot Moloto believes Rashid Sumaila has just started picking up after a shaky start in the South African top flight. The Ghana defender joined the Brazilians at the beginning of the season haven played for giants Asante Kotoko on loan from Ebusua Dwarfs last term. Sumaila’s vast improvement has seen him make two starts in succession for the Black Stars in the two-legged 2014 World Cup playoff against Egypt. The 20-year-old was however deemed too abrasive in his opening performances for Sundowns in the South African top flight. But his South African club technical director who is in Ghana to witness the WAFU Championship believes the talented centre half has started coming into his own after settling in the PSL. “When he came to South Africa, his style of play was different from what we have in South Africa,” Moloto told Metro FM. “Rashid is a very strong person, a good tackler. A hard one when he goes for tackles. “It was like some referees thought he was being too physical when he first started out. “But this is his nature of playing football. He wants to go out there and dominate his position and co-ordinating very well with our centre backs. “So we had to let him take it easy, you are one of the best centre backs in the country and keep encouraging him to keep improving.” Sumaila’s assured performances at the back for Sundowns has helped the side maintain their lead in the South African top flight with five matches to the end of the first round.

Hearts of Oak have confirmed the appointment of Mohammed Polo as head coach of the side until the end of the season.

The ex Ghana star will be taking charge of the Phobians as the replacement for David Duncan who was dismissed by the club’s board almost a fortnight ago.

Polo has already began work as Hearts coach and will be on the bench for the first time as coach of the side in the 13th week Premier League fixture at Ebusua Dwarfs on Sunday.

The club said in a statement: “Accra Hearts of Oak has appointed one of its legends, Mohammed Ahmed Polo as its new manager. He replaces David Duncan with whom the club parted ways some weeks ago.

“Polo’s appointment as Hearts manager will last till the end of the 2013/2014 football season after which it could be reviewed.

“Mohammed Polo is expected to start his career as Hearts manager within the week and would be in charge of the team during the upcoming week13 Premiership game against Dwarfs at Cape Coast.”

Polo is expected is expected to continue with the side’s challenge for the Premier League title this season.

Hearts are currently second in the Ghanaian top flight – four points adrift leaders and rivals Asante Kotoko.
