Former Hearts of Oak poster boy, Charles Taylor has expressed displeasure about the continuous referral of players in the Ghana Premier League as local players.

According to him, the term should be abolished.

Speaking to Angel TV in an interview, the ex-Ghana forward said referring to players as local players is demeaning.

“The term ‘local player’ should be abolished. It has negative effect on the players,” Charles Taylor shared.

The player who is also an ex-player of Asante Kotoko continued “They’re all professional players. In Ghana people think local rice is inferior to foreign. That’s our mindset. Afriyie Barnie is a professional player not a local player.”

During his career, Charles Taylor was regarded as one of the best players in the Ghana Premier League.

Since retiring, he has been a strong advocate for players in the Ghana Premier League.

Ahead of the 2022 FIFA World Cup, he wants top players in the league to be included in the Black Stars squad.
