President Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku expressed satisfaction with the fruitful outcome of the strategic decision to prioritize women’s football at all levels, from grassroots development to the highest echelons.
Addressing the triumphant Black Queens upon their return to the Kotoka International Airport after securing qualification to the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations by defeating Namibia in Pretoria, President Simeon-Okraku emphasized the significance of investing in women’s football.
“Months ago, we made a crucial decision to actively support and invest in women’s football, ensuring that everyone passionate about the sport receives the respect and recognition they deserve,” stated President Simeon-Okraku.
He attributed the success, including the qualification to the Women’s AFCON, to this pivotal decision. The president expressed gratitude to the team for their dedication, acknowledging their role in making Ghana proud.
President Simeon-Okraku also commended the Black Queens for upholding their values throughout the journey. He emphasized the power of unity and encouragement within the team, stating, “When we stay together and support each other through thick and thin, success is inevitable. The vision was to qualify, and you’ve not only achieved it but also garnered significant attention.”
As a result of their accomplishments, President Simeon-Okraku anticipates that the Black Queens will receive increased recognition and opportunities. He concluded, “This feat is going to open doors for you as players and inspire younger individuals considering a career in football.”
