Asante Kotoko ended a three-game winless run in style with a commanding 3-0 victory over Basake Holy Stars at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on matchday 20 of the Ghana Premier League.
The Porcupine Warriors came into the game under pressure but delivered a dominant display to revive faint title hopes.
Samba O’Neil opened the scoring on the half-hour mark, calmly dispatching a penalty to settle early nerves.
Kotoko returned from the break with greater intensity, pinning Holy Stars deep in their own half.
Substitute Albert Amoah then stole the spotlight in the 74th minute, marking his return with a sensational overhead kick.
The visitors’ resistance finally crumbled when fellow substitute Kwame Opoku added a spectacular bicycle kick to make it 3-0.
After the match, head coach Abdul Karim Zito praised his side’s tactical discipline and game management.
“We were more composed and good tactically,” Zito said, reflecting on the performance.
“The attitude was superb. We made sure that we [don’t concede] a lot of chances,” he added.
“We were able to press them so I am very okay,” Zito concluded, as the win lifted Kotoko to third, eight points behind leaders Medeama SC.
