France and Arsenal legend Thierry Henry has declared his enduring love for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), describing the tournament as one he has always enjoyed and will continue to follow because of its quality and rich football culture.
Speaking on the CBS Sports Golazo show, the former World Cup winner praised AFCON for consistently showcasing top-class talent and exciting teams, insisting the competition deserves global respect.
“I can also mention the guys that came to play in Europe – Didier Drogba, Samuel Eto’o, Jay-Jay Okocha,” Henry said. “AFCON was always a tournament I enjoyed watching because you could see skills and great teams. I also watched this competition; I will always watch it.”
Henry’s comments come on the back of the recently concluded 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, which ended dramatically on Sunday, January 18. Hosts Morocco were beaten 1-0 by Senegal after extra time in a tense final that stretched to 120 minutes.
Despite the chaotic scenes that marked the closing stages of the tournament, Morocco has received widespread praise for successfully hosting a memorable AFCON, with strong organisation, passionate atmospheres and high-quality football throughout the competition.
Henry’s endorsement adds to growing recognition of AFCON’s global appeal, reinforcing its status as one of the most vibrant and competitive international tournaments in world football.
