“I had something to finish” – Albert Amoah explains Kotoko return

Striker Albert Amoah says his decision to return to Asante Kotoko was fueled by a deep sense of unfinished business, as he looks to help the Porcupine Warriors regain their cutting edge and push for success this season.

The forward has rejoined the Kumasi-based giants after a brief loan spell with Libyan side Al Ahli Benghazi, a move that had earlier sparked intense debate among supporters and pundits.

Amoah’s initial departure from Kotoko came in the aftermath of a disappointing CAF Confederation Cup campaign, which ended in a crushing 5-1 aggregate defeat to Morocco’s Wydad Athletic Club. Since then, Kotoko have struggled for goals, with a series of blunt attacking displays raising concerns.

Goalless draws against Berekum Chelsea and Bibiani Gold Stars, followed by a narrow loss to Swedru All Blacks, have highlighted the team’s difficulties in converting chances and sustaining momentum in the league.

Speaking in his first interview since returning, Amoah admitted that the feeling of leaving unfinished work played a major role in his decision to come back.

“I decided I wanted to come back to Kotoko so that I would finish everything that I started,” he said. “Winning the league is part of it, so I decided to return so that we can work hard and achieve that together.”

The striker is expected to be in contention for selection when Kotoko take on Basake Holy Stars on Sunday, January 25, a fixture seen as an opportunity for the club to reset and revive their campaign.

With Amoah back in the fold, Kotoko will be hoping his presence can add urgency and efficiency to their attack as they seek to get their season back on track.
