Ghanaian midfielder Kevin-Prince Boateng has been named vice-captain of Hertha Berlin.

Boateng has ascended to the position after the departures of captain Dedryck Boyata and vice Niklas Stark.

Marvin Plattenhardt was named captain by new coach Sandro Schwarz, with Boateng serving as his assistant.

Boateng rejoined his boyhood club in 2021 and helped them avoid relegation from Germany’s Bundesliga last season.

The club were impressed by his commitment and rewarded him with a one-year extension before the start of the current season.

The 35-year-old has so far been involved in three matches.
