All 18 Ghana Premier League clubs will receive GHS 1 million before the start of the 2026-27 campaign, Ghana Football Association president Kurt Okraku has announced.
The financial support was confirmed at the GFA’s 32nd Ordinary Congress at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram, with the package designed to strengthen the clubs’ ability to operate throughout the season.
Okraku also revealed that the winners of the Ghana Premier League will receive GHS 3 million, while a total of GHS 9.5 million will be distributed as prize money among clubs in the competition.
“Each GPL club will receive GHS1 million before the beginning of the season. The winner of the GPL will take home GHS 3,000,000. GHS 9,500,000 will be paid as prize money for the GPL clubs,” Kurt Okraku said.
The funding forms part of a new partnership between the GFA and Adesa Productions Limited, which is expected to support the commercialisation and wider development of Ghana’s top-flight competition.
The association says the immediate payments will give clubs a stronger financial base as they prepare for the new campaign. The money is expected to help teams improve their day-to-day operations, player welfare and competitive performance.
The initiative is also intended to contribute to greater professionalism across the Ghana Premier League. The GFA believes clubs with more secure finances will be better placed to invest in their playing squads, technical departments and administrative structures.
As part of the partnership, the GFA and Adesa Productions Limited will pursue a wider commercial strategy for the league. That plan includes seeking new sponsorship opportunities, improving the competition’s marketing and increasing income from matchday activities and broadcasting.
The association is aiming to make the Ghana Premier League more commercially attractive, sustainable and capable of gaining greater international exposure. The new arrangement is expected to help position the competition as a more marketable product while creating additional opportunities for revenue growth.
The GHS 3 million prize for the champions will provide an added incentive in the title race, while the total prize-money allocation of GHS 9.5 million is intended to increase the rewards available across the competition.
The 2026-27 Ghana Premier League season is scheduled to begin between 4 and 7 September. Clubs are now preparing for a campaign in which they will have access to increased financial support both before the opening fixtures and through the competition’s prize structure.
The GFA has described the measures as another step towards building a more professional, competitive and financially sustainable league. The association expects the partnership with Adesa Productions Limited to play a central role in supporting that long-term objective.
