Ghana Premier League clubs have been given increased financial support and prize incentives by the Ghana Football Association (GFA), with 15 of the 18 teams set to benefit from a total rewards package worth GHS 9.5 million.
GFA President Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku announced the measures at the 32nd Ordinary Session of Congress at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram on Thursday, 20 August 2026.
The financial package includes a record prize of GHS 2 million for the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League champions. The runners-up will receive GHS 1 million, while the clubs finishing third and fourth will be awarded GHS 800,000 and GHS 750,000 respectively.
The increased payments form part of what the GFA described as an expanded investment and reward structure aimed at strengthening Ghana’s domestic game and improving competitiveness across the top flight.
During his address, President Simeon-Okraku also highlighted the financial assistance delivered to all 18 Premier League clubs before the beginning of the 2025/26 season.
That support came through the GFA’s partnership with Adesa Productions Limited, with every club receiving GHS 1 million.
“Through our landmark partnership with Adesa Productions Limited, each of the 18 Ghana Premier League clubs received GHS 1 million before the commencement of the 2025/26 season,” President Simeon-Okraku said.
“This was a bold statement of intent to empower our clubs, improve their financial stability, and create the conditions necessary for sustained growth and competitiveness.”
The GHS 1 million payment was made to each of the league’s 18 participating clubs, while the new prize structure is designed to extend financial rewards beyond the leading teams.
Under the arrangement announced by the GFA, 15 clubs will receive financial incentives, taking the overall value of the package to GHS 9.5 million.
“Fifteen (15) of the eighteen participating clubs will receive financial rewards an unprecedented incentive structure that recognises performance, promotes healthy competition, and ensures that success is shared more broadly across the league, totalling GHS 9.5 Million,” he said.
The rewards for the top four clubs represent a substantial increase in the financial incentives linked to sporting achievement in Ghana’s leading competition.
At the same time, the wider distribution of payments is intended to ensure that more participating clubs benefit from success in the league rather than financial rewards being concentrated only among the leading teams.
The GFA said the structure is aimed at encouraging healthy competition throughout the Ghana Premier League while giving clubs additional resources to improve their operations and competitiveness.
President Simeon-Okraku presented the measures as part of a broader effort to build a stronger and more financially stable domestic game. The investment provided before the season and the expanded payments linked to final league positions together form the financial support framework outlined at the 32nd Ordinary Session of Congress.
