The Ghana FA disciplinary wing must take retrospective action against Asante Kotoko defender Christopher Nettey for punching Berekum Chelsea’s Kofi Owusu in the face.

Video replay from the 67th-minute incident shows that Nettey was the first to punch the Blues’ man in his face in an off-the-ball incident.

Referee Abdul-Latif Adaari missed the incident as he was then heading towards the Chelsea box where the concentration was.

However, 4th referee Joshua Samedji drew the attention of the center referee to the incident and he immediately rushed to the action spot to flash the dismissal card to Owusu.

The GFA has the power to take retrospective action against club officials, players, GFA officials, clubs, and match officials.

Despite an incessant protest from the Chelsea players, Adaari stuck to his decision and failed to caution the Asante Kotoko right-back who initiated the attack.

Article 37 and 34(6)(d) of the Ghana Premier League Regulations empower the Ghana FA to bring disciplinary action against players in instances as happened in the Berekum Chelsea vs Kotoko game.

In April 2022, the FA charged Bechem United defender Samuel Osei Kuffour for stamping on Franck Etouga Mbella in an incident that escaped the referee.
