The Ghana Football Association has opened disciplinary proceedings against Asante Kotoko SC goalkeeper Mohamed Camara and the club’s Welfare Officer Kwasi Frimpong Amos following incidents that occurred during their Ghana Premier League clash against Karela United FC.
The charges relate to events that unfolded after Kotoko’s 1-0 defeat in the Matchday 25 fixture played at the Tamale Sports Stadium.
According to the football governing body, both individuals are alleged to have misconducted themselves and their actions are deemed detrimental to the integrity of the game.
The GFA has instructed the club and the accused parties to respond to the allegations before Wednesday, March 11, 2026.
Their responses will determine the next stage of the disciplinary process and whether further sanctions will be imposed.
The controversy stems from a tense match that saw Kotoko endure a difficult afternoon away from home. The Porcupine Warriors went into the game hoping to maintain their push near the top of the Ghana Premier League standings.
However, the contest took a dramatic turn late in the first half when defender Henry Ansu received a straight red card in the 40th minute, reducing Kotoko to ten players.
Just moments after the dismissal, Karela United took advantage of the numerical superiority.
Forward Malik Abubakar capitalised on the opportunity and calmly finished to give the hosts the lead in the 41st minute. The goal ultimately proved decisive in the match.
Despite the setback, Kotoko attempted to respond in the second half and pushed forward in search of an equaliser.
Goalkeeper Mohamed Camara produced a crucial moment later in the game when he saved a penalty, keeping his side within reach of a comeback. However, the visitors struggled to break down Karela’s defence as the home team held firm until the final whistle.
After the match ended, tensions reportedly escalated on the pitch.
The GFA alleges that Camara confronted the referee in an aggressive manner and used insulting language while also physically assaulting the match official.
The governing body further claims that Kwasi Frimpong Amos interfered with the referee by forcefully taking the red card from him during the confrontation.
These alleged actions have now resulted in formal charges under the disciplinary code. If found guilty, both Camara and Amos could face significant sanctions, including possible suspensions that may affect Kotoko’s upcoming matches.
The defeat has also had an impact on Kotoko’s position in the league standings.
The Kumasi-based club currently sits fifth, seven points behind league leaders Medeama SC as the title race intensifies.
The club will now have to deal with the off-field disciplinary situation while attempting to regain momentum in the competition.
For Karela United, the victory represents an important step in their campaign.
The three points lifted the team to sixth place on the league table with 38 points, strengthening their hopes of finishing in the top four before the end of the season. The result also extended their strong home form in the league.
Kotoko will now turn their attention to their next league assignment against Nations FC.
