On Thursday night, Fiorentina and Cremonese clash at the Artemio Franchi in the Coppa Italia semi-final second leg. The first leg ended 2-0 to the Viola, so the Florence outfit will be favourites to progress to the final.

The Viola have not been in great form of late, as a weekend 3-2 defeat by Monza means that the team from Florence has won just once in their last five outings, having suffered back-to-back losses in all competitions.

However, luckily for Vincenzo Italiano’s team, the first leg was played when they were in excellent form and gave the home side a good chance to book their place in the final of the Coppa Italia.

Fiorentina has a decent recent record in the Coppa Italia, having recorded three straight victories in the competition and having also won six of their last nine Coppa games.

The Viola has also won eight of their previous ten Coppa Italia matches at the Artemio Franchi.

The visitors are set for relegation to Serie B after a poor campaign in the Italian top flight. They are currently eight points from safety in Serie A.

A 3-2 defeat at Udinese last time out ended a short two-game winning run for Davide Ballardini’s team in Serie A.

Their run to the semi-finals of the Coppa Italia has at least given the Cremonese fans something to cheer about.

However, the first-leg home defeat against Fiorentina ended a five-game unbeaten run in the competition for the visitors.

Cremonese has struggled for form on their travels in the competition, having won just one of their last seven Coppa games away from home in 90 minutes.
