Former Berekum Chelsea defender Edward Kpodo has highlighted the crucial role of unity in the club’s success during their triumphant 2011/12 Ghana Premier League campaign.

Kpodo, who was a key member of the team, emphasized how the strong bond among players contributed significantly to their achievements, including qualifying for the 2012 CAF Champions League.

Having played alongside some of his teammates at colts and amateur levels prior to their reunion at Berekum Chelsea, Kpodo emphasized the ease with which they formed a formidable team.

In an interview with LinusNartey TV on YouTube, Kpodo reminisced about the camaraderie and familiarity among players like Emma, Awako, and Jordan, whom he had known for many years.

“That season I knew Emma, Awako, Jordan. For Jordan I knew him since 1990, for Jordan I have known him for a while. So the boys we’ve known each other for long.

“When we arrived at Chelsea, it was Unity and we had equally good replacements. It was always an eye saw whenever you visit our trainings at Berekum which pulled alot of people to come watch us.

“When we train, you might think it is Hearts of Oak or Asante Kotoko. So it was the Unity that propelled us, if there was no Unity the team would have been disastrous because we had all the quality players.

“We had Banahene, Bismark Idan and one Beninese striker who was well built. And at that time, in Ghana every player wanted to play for Berekum Chelsea”.
