Former Nsoatreman FC General Manager Eric Alagidede has issued a stark warning about the future of Ghana’s biggest clubs, Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko.
He noted that despite their combined 45 league titles, both sides are struggling to draw fans to matches consistently.
Currently, Hearts sit third on the league table with 40 points, just ahead of Kotoko in fourth.
Alagidede cited the decline of other historic clubs as evidence of a worrying trend in Ghanaian football.
“I am not going to be the prophet of doom but if we are not careful, clubs like Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko may not be relevant in the next 20 to 30 years,” he told Sporty FM.
He added, “I am being very honest. [Traditional clubs like] BA United is playing in Division Two, Bofoakwa Tano in Division Two, Hasaacas in Division Two.
“I have done a lot of work on traditional clubs.”
The football administrator stressed the need for modernization and fan-focused strategies to maintain the clubs’ status.
Hearts will face second-placed Bibiani GoldStars in their next Premier League game, while Kotoko takes on Vision FC.
Alagidede believes proactive planning is essential to protect the heritage of Ghana’s most celebrated teams.
