Italian-Ghanaian forward Enoch Owusu came off the bench to score twice and complete St Gallen’s comeback victory over FC Vaduz in a dramatic 3-2 Super League encounter in Liechtenstein.
St Gallen made the ideal start when Aliou Balde put the visitors ahead in the opening minute. However, FC Vaduz responded strongly and turned the game around before half-time, with Juan Cabrera finishing from close range to give the home side the lead.
The match remained finely balanced until Owusu was introduced as a substitute. The 21-year-old immediately provided the attacking spark St Gallen needed, drawing the visitors level with a well-struck effort from distance in the 72nd minute.
Owusu then completed the turnaround three minutes from full-time. Cutting inside, he curled a right-footed shot into the bottom corner in the 87th minute to secure all three points for St Gallen.
His brace made the decisive difference in a match that had shifted repeatedly between the two sides. The forward’s finishing also underlined his composure in front of goal and his ability to influence a game after entering from the bench.
For St Gallen, the result provides an important lift ahead of their next assignment in Europe. They are due to face FC Sheriff in UEFA Conference League qualification on August 6.
Owusu’s performance could strengthen his claim for a more prominent role in the team in the coming days. After making an immediate impact as a substitute, he not only restored parity but went on to deliver the winning goal, giving St Gallen momentum before their European fixture.
