Dreams FC coach Karim Zito vows to maintain league status amidst CAF Confederation Cup campaign

Dreams FC coach, Karim Zito, has expressed his determination to keep the team afloat in the Ghana Premier League despite their ongoing CAF Confederation Cup campaign.

This comes after Dreams FC secured a spot in the semifinals of the CAF Confederation Cup following a hard-fought draw with Stade Malien in Kumasi.

The team, which scored first at the Baba Yara Stadium, had to settle for a draw after Sylvester Simba’s equalizer. However, their previous 2-1 victory in Bamako was enough to secure their semifinal berth.

Speaking after the match, Zito acknowledged the challenges of balancing domestic and continental commitments, citing examples of other teams like Medeama and Chelsea who have faced similar issues. He lamented the lack of a larger squad, which he believes would help alleviate the pressure on his players.

“Maintain myself in the premier division so when you look at the rest of the matches we are confident we won’t go to relegation before the 4th game we will lift ourselves. But I have accepted it is not easy if you look at Medeama they also had the same thing the same problem when we go and come because we use the same players even Chelsea the same problem,” Zito told Happy Sports as monitored by Footballghana.com

“I remember when we were playing we didn’t have that problem at that time we registered 60 or 40 something players in the league so you have equally good players I this player doesnt go this will play of late it is very alarming,” he added.

Dreams FC will now turn their attention to Egyptian giants Zamalek in the semifinals, with the first leg scheduled for April 21, 2024, in Egypt, and the return leg in Kumasi on April 28, 2024.
