Diego Simeone send a thinly veiled dig at Pep Guardiola

Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone has aimed a thinly-veiled dig at Pep Guardiola following his team’s elimination from the Champions League.

Both sides fought to a scoreless draw on Wednesday night but City went through after scoring a goal in the first leg with the second leg marred with a lot of tension and fight between players and the technical bench.

The tempers culminated in a red card for Felipe and players from both sides continued their war of words, pushing and shoving down the tunnel at full time and Simeone continued to spice things up in his post-match presser.

“I don’t have to have an opinion on whether someone speaks well or not (on me). Many times, those that have a large vocabulary, are very intelligent and they praise you with contempt. But we aren’t so stupid, the ones that perhaps have a smaller vocabulary,” Simeone said as reported by Marca.

The Argentine also praised his side for marching City toe to toe in the tie and stated that their opponents deserved to make it to the semi-finals by virtue of scoring more goals.

The Pep Guardiola side will now face Real Madrid in the semi-finals, with the first leg taking place on the 26th of April in Manchester.
