Barcelona’s plans for Luuk de Jong beyond the summer revealed

An insight into the stance of Spanish giants Barcelona when it comes to the future of loanee Luuk de Jong beyond the conclusion of the campaign has been provided on Thursday.

And the news will no doubt be met with widespread approval on the part of the Blaugrana faithful.

This comes amid the suggestion that fan favourite de Jong, who endeared himself ever further to the club’s fanbase courtesy of a last-gasp winner at Levante last weekend, could yet be in line for an extended stay in Catalunya.

The Dutchman, of course, is currently in the midst of a season-long loan spell at the Camp Nou, from La Liga rivals Sevilla.

As per a report from Alfredo Martinez of Spanish outlet Diario Sport, though, those in a position of power at Barca are taking into serious consideration a proposal to extend de Jong’s loan stint for another year.

The prospect of striking such a deal with Sevilla is currently viewed as ‘difficult’, but hope nevertheless remains ahead of the 2022/23 campaign.

Eintracht showdown

Word of Barcelona’s latest plans for the transfer market of course come ahead of Xavi Hernandez’s troops returning to action later this evening.

Shifting attentions back towards matters on the continent, the Blaugrana are set to welcome Bundesliga outfit Eintracht Frankfurt to the Camp Nou, eyeing a spot in the semi-finals of the Europa League.

The tie, as things stand, sits on a knife-edge, on the back of a tightly-contested 1-1 stalemate in Germany this day last week.
