Nigeria head coach Eric Chelle has admitted his Super Eagles need to improve on seeing games out, following their 2-1 win over Tanzania in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) opener.
Despite dominating large parts of the match, Nigeria were wasteful in front of goal, leaving Chelle concerned about his team’s ability to close out games.
“We are satisfied with the three points. That is the most important. For the moment, I want to focus on the positives. The second part of the game shows clearly that there is still some work to be done especially when it comes to killing the game. We are aware of this, and we will work on it,” Chelle said after the match.
The victory leaves Nigeria second in Group C with three points, level on points with leaders Tunisia but behind on goal difference. The Super Eagles now have a chance to move to the top of the table when they face Tunisia on Saturday, December 27.
