Casemiro: Former Real Madrid and Man Utd Midfielder Joins Inter Miami on Long-Term Deal

Brazil midfielder Casemiro has completed a move to Inter Miami on a long-term contract after leaving Manchester United at the end of his deal earlier this summer.

The 34-year-old has signed with the Major League Soccer side until the end of the 2027 season, with an option to extend his stay by a further two years through to 2029, potentially keeping him in Miami until he is 40.

The transfer marks the end of Casemiro’s 12-year spell in European football, where he became one of the game’s most decorated and influential holding midfielders.

‘To keep winning and developing’

Speaking after the move was confirmed, Casemiro said his decision was driven by his hunger for more success and improvement.

“What motivates me most, and I think this is true for any player, is to keep winning and developing,” he said.

“The project the club presented to me and the effort they made to sign me meant a lot. I can’t wait to repay that, not just in matches but also in training.”

Inter Miami, co-owned by former England captain David Beckham, have made a series of high-profile signings in recent seasons as they attempt to establish themselves as a dominant force in MLS, and Casemiro’s arrival underlines their ambition.

End of an era in Europe

Casemiro moved to Europe from Sao Paulo in 2012 and built a standout career on the continent.

He first joined Real Madrid, where he developed into one of the world’s leading defensive midfielders and formed part of a side that won multiple Champions League and La Liga titles. He also spent time on loan at FC Porto before returning to Madrid and later moving to Manchester United.

At Old Trafford, Casemiro added a League Cup title and brought experience and leadership to a young squad, but departed this summer when his contract expired.

His switch to MLS continues a growing trend of veteran European stars choosing the United States as the next step in their careers, combining competitive football with a rapidly expanding league profile.

Brazil mainstay with three World Cups

On the international stage, Casemiro has been a key figure for Brazil for more than a decade.

A Brazil international on 91 occasions, he featured at the 2026 World Cup, his third after 2018 and 2022. He also played in the Copa America tournaments of 2015, 2016, 2019 and 2021, lifting the trophy on home soil in 2019.

His experience at the highest level of club and international football is expected to be central to Inter Miami’s plans, both on the pitch and in mentoring younger players within the squad.

With his move now confirmed, Casemiro will be expected to slot into the heart of Miami’s midfield as the club continues its push for silverware in MLS and beyond.
