Ghana women’s national under-20 football team head coach Charles Simpson says his side remains fully focused on securing qualification for the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Poland.
Ghana advanced to the final round of the qualifiers after edging South Africa women’s national under-20 football team 3-2 on aggregate.
After a 2-2 draw at the Accra Sports Stadium, the Princesses sealed progression with a determined 1-0 victory in Johannesburg.
The result sets up a decisive final-round clash against Uganda women’s national under-20 football team in May 2026.
“Well, our goal is to go to the World Cup, and South Africa posed to be a challenge for us, so we are extremely happy we could surpass them,” Simpson said.
“Now we will have time to prepare and look at which one is our next opponent,” he said.
“[The game against Uganda] is a big deal. Our objective is to go to the World Cup.
“Now we have Uganda as the last hurdle, so we will prepare ourselves and make sure we outweigh them, too.”
The two-legged final qualifying round will be played between May 1 and May 10, with Ghana regrouping in April to begin preparations.
