Trevoh Chalobah move to Como edges closer in €36m Chelsea deal

Trevoh Chalobah is close to leaving Chelsea for Como after the Italian club reached a verbal agreement to sign the England defender during the current summer transfer window.

Como are strengthening their squad ahead of their first-ever appearance in the Champions League next season, and Chalobah has emerged as one of the club’s leading targets. The proposed move would see the 26-year-old continue his career in Italy after spending his professional career with Chelsea.

Italian transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano reported that Como and Chelsea had reached an initial understanding over the transfer. The agreement is worth €30m in fixed fees, with a further €6m available through add-ons.

Romano said on his official X account: “Agreement reached between clubs for €30m fixed fee plus €6m add-ons, with sell-on percentage waived.”

The arrangement would also include the removal of a percentage of any future sale proceeds that might otherwise be owed to Chelsea. The total value of the package could therefore rise to €36m if the additional conditions are met.

Chalobah is understood to be keen on the move to Italy and is ready to play in the Champions League. Como’s participation in Europe’s leading club competition is a significant attraction as the club prepares for its first campaign in the tournament.

For Chelsea, the deal would involve the departure of a defender who came through the club’s academy and has represented the first team. Chalobah’s possible exit comes as Chelsea prepare for a new season without European football.

The London club will not play in any European competition next season after finishing 10th in the Premier League. That absence contrasts with Como’s qualification for the Champions League and is a key factor in the player’s reported desire to join the Italian side.

Como are continuing their efforts to add several players to their squad as they prepare for the demands of their first Champions League campaign. The club’s interest in Chalobah forms part of that wider recruitment drive.

A verbal agreement has now been reached between the two clubs, with the proposed €30m fixed fee, potential €6m in add-ons and the future-sale arrangement forming the basis of the deal. Chalobah’s willingness to move to Italy and his readiness to compete in the Champions League have helped bring the transfer closer to completion.
