Servette FC defender Benedicte Simon has arrived in the Black Queens camp in Birmingham and says the moment she realised she had finally been called up by Ghana is one she will never forget.
The 27-year-old, handed her debut invitation by head coach Kim Lars Bjorkegren, spoke with deep emotion about what the call-up means to her.
“I’m very glad and happy. It’s an honour. Ghana means a lot to me — it’s my motherland,” she said.
Simon revealed that her immediate reaction was to share the news with her mother.
“When I saw my name, I called my mother immediately. It was like a dream. I was so happy.”
The defender, who has played across France, Italy and Spain, added that she had been waiting a long time for the chance to represent Ghana.
After joining the team on Friday, she said she felt at home right away thanks to the warm reception from her new teammates.
Her words capture not just excitement, but a deep personal pride — a moment she describes as the fulfilment of a long-held dream as the Black Queens prepare to face England in Tuesday’s international friendly.
