Asante Kotoko’s Frederick Asare set to leave at end of the season

Asante Kotoko goalkeeper Frederick Asare will part ways with the club when his contract expires in June 2025

The 25-year-old shot-stopper, who joined the Kumasi-based side in 2022 from Accra Lions, has opted not to renew his deal after contract extension talks broke down over financial disagreements.

Despite efforts by the club’s Interim Management Committee (IMC) to secure his future, negotiations have stalled.

Asare has fallen down the pecking order this season, losing his starting spot to Guinean international Mohammed Camara.

He has managed just 15 Premier League appearances in the current campaign, keeping seven clean sheets and conceding 12 goals.

The former Accra Lions goalie played a key role in their promotion to the Ghana Premier League in 2021 and joined Kotoko on a free transfer the following year.

Though he earned his first senior national team call-up last year, Asare is yet to make his debut for the Black Stars and has been overlooked recently due to limited club action.

As Kotoko prepare for the 2024/25 FA Cup final and the close of the season, Asare is set to move on from the Porcupine Warriors after a three-year spell.
