The French top flight action continues on Sunday afternoon and features this upcoming clash between Angers and Montpellier when the two teams meet at the Stade Raymond-Kopa with the hosts looking to lift themselves out of the early relegation zone, while the visitors will be looking to return to winning ways.
Angers currently occupy second from bottom spot in Ligue 1 as the hosts have managed to pick up just a meagre two points to date in this season’s campaign, thanks to points picked up in draws with Nantes and Auxerre in the opening two games of this new term.

However, Angers’ results have plummeted in subsequent weeks as they have been handed defeats by Brest, Troyes, Reims and Lyon respectively, the latter being a heavy 5-0 thrashing, whilst also conceding a total of 15 goals in the process and managing to score just 4 goals in reply.
The bigger picture shows Angers have managed to collect just two league wins from their previous 15 matches overall in the French top flight, which were gained in victories over Bordeaux and Sunday’s opponents, Montpellier, the latter being towards the end of last season.
Montpellier were also handed defeat last weekend in Ligue 1 as they were dealt a 3-1 loss at home to Lille.
The visitors know that all three points away at Angers on Sunday would see them stay in touch with the top five pack.
Montpellier had previously registered back to back wins in Ligue 1 with victories picked up against Brest away from home in what was a 7-0 demolition of their hosts before posting a 2-0 home win against Ajaccio.
So they will still feel upbeat about their chances on Sunday afternoon when they make their way to the Stade Raymond-Kopa.
Although the visitors had also suffered losses against PSG and Auxerre, they have also recorded an earlier 3-2 home win against Troyes, so the visitors look to be the better equipped in finding a way to win than their hosts, Angers.
In particular, Montpellier’s 7-0 thrashing of Brest last time out on their travels will give the visitors plenty of confidence for this Sunday’s clash.
They’ve lost just once in the previous four meetings against Angers and the incentive of keeping pace with the top five pack as well.
