Ahli have proposed to host the Champions League final second leg with South Africa’s Orlando Pirates at Cairo Stadium instead of Arab Contractors Stadium, the club said on their website.
Ahli have initially protested against the authorities’ decision to stage the November 10 return leg at Arab Contractors Stadium, citing the ‘poor condition of the pitch’ as the main reason.
The Champions League holders claim that an approval from Cairo Stadium officials has been received.
Ahli will, however, have to wait for the authorities’ consent to hold the game at Cairo Stadium.
Although fans will be allowed to attend the decisive clash, it is still unclear whether a limited number of supporters will only be permitted in.
The game comes just nine days ahead of Egypt’s final qualifying playoff return leg against Ghana, which takes place at the 30000-seater Air Defense Stadium.
Ahli hosted last season’s final first leg against Esperance at Alexandria’s Army Stadium in the presence of fans.
The Reds, who visit South Africa’s Pirates for the first leg on Saturday, have been playing their Champions League games at Hurghada’s Gouna Stadium this season.
