Black Maidens gain first leg advantage against Guinea in World Cup qualifier

The Black Maidens of Ghana on Saturday recorded an away over Guinea in the FIFA U-17 World Cup India 2022 third-round 1st leg qualifier.

The Maidens made light work of their opponents at the Stade Général Lansana Conté de Nongo Conakry, recording a 3-1 victory.

Captain Georgina Ayisha Aoyem shot Ghana into the lead in the 13th after slotting home from a corner kick.

Rasheeda Shahadu doubled Ghana’s advantage at the half-hour mark after her left-footed shot from outside the box went straight into the right corner of the post.

The first half ended 2-0 in favour of the Black Maidens.

Guinea upped their game in the second half and their effort resulted in a consolation goal 2 minutes into the second half.

Any hope of staging a comeback was short-lived when Mariama Maltiti Iddi restored the Black Maidens’ two-goal advantage in the 59th minute.

Ghana are in search of a record consecutive FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup appearance having first played at the tournament in 2008 in New Zealand.

The return encounter is slated for Accra in two weeks’ time.
