CAF Confederation Cup: Medeama boost qualification chances with victory over Young Africans

Medeama put up a stunning performance to record their first win and maintain hopes of qualifying to the semi-final of the CAF Confederation Cup.

A fantastic brace from Medeama’s Confederation Cup top scorer Abass Mohammed and a goal from Daniel Amoah helped the Tarkwa-based club to a resounding 3-1 win over Young Africans in Sekondi on Tuesday.

The win sees Medeama still occupy the third position with the same points, five, as second placed MO Bejaia who have a game in hand against table toppers TP Mazembe.

For Yanga, they are no more in contention to reach the semis.

The Mauves showed they meant business from the blast of the referees’ whistle as to they mount ceaseless pressure on their opponent.

Amoah opened the scoring in the 7th minute. Malik Akowuah squandered a wonderful chance to double the lead as he miss a penalty.

But Abass redeemed Akowuah by scoring the second goal, much to the delight of fans at the Stadium. Abass has scored a total of six goals in the competition.

The Visitors halved the deficit through Msuva Saimon but Abass superbly restored the two goal margin to end the first half.

Medeama should have scored more in the second department but failed.
