Ghana are most likely to miss their key player Andre Ayew when they face Mozambique in this month’s 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier because on injury.
Black Stars coach Avram Grant is anxious to find out if they talented winger will be available for the two matches to be played over four days.
This comes after the Wales-based winger was ruled out of action because of an ankle injury he suffered while playing Swansea City.
Ayew has arrived in France to receive treatment from a specialist on the turned ankle problem while playing for his side during last week’s clash with Norwich.
The Ghana deputy captain missed the 3-2 defeat to Bournemouth at the weekend because of the setback and there are worries that he will not be fit for the matches to be played in Accra and Maputo.
Alan Curtis, who stood in for Swansea coach Francesco Guidolin as he is ill, said: “Andre turned his ankle last Saturday and he’s out in France to be assessed.
“I don’t think it’s bad; he’s probably doubtful for next weekend but then it’s the international break so hopefully he will be back by the time we play Stoke (on April 2).”
Ayew is key for Ghana coach Avram Grant but the burden of the punishing schedule for the back-to-back qualifiers could have a toll on the winger fitness.
As a result of this Ghana are unlikely to rely on Ayew as there are other strong options to be considered.
The Black Stars are the favourites for the two matches as victories could help them seal their place in the tournament to be held in Equatorial Guinea.
