FIFA has dismissed one of its most senior executives after he criticised president Gianni Infantino’s proposal to sell part of the World Cup to investors, Sky News understands.
Kevin Lamour, FIFA’s chief operating officer and a long-standing colleague of Infantino, is understood to have told staff that they had been “deceived”.
FIFA did not disclose the terms of Lamour’s departure. Staff were informed of the decision on Monday evening.
In a statement, a FIFA spokesperson said: “FIFA can confirm that the working relationship between FIFA and Kevin Lamour as FIFA’s Chief Operating Officer has ended on 17 August 2026.
“FIFA thanks Kevin for his two years of service and wishes him the best of luck for the future.”
Lamour’s departure follows his criticism of plans linked to the commercialisation of the World Cup and the involvement of outside investors.
