Ghana footballer Andre “Dede” Ayew has donated GH¢10,000 to support the 6th Inter-Regional Wheelchair Basketball Championship in the Volta Region.
Ayew made the contribution during a visit to the Ho Sports Stadium, where he met athletes competing in the tournament and offered support for welfare and match-day operations.
The Black Stars player was in the region as a special guest at the 2026 Volta Cup. During his visit, he engaged with young footballers, athletes and members of the local sporting community.
About 150 para-athletes from five regions are taking part in the wheelchair basketball championship, which aims to provide a competitive platform while promoting inclusion in Ghanaian sport.
Ayew praised the athletes for their determination and encouraged them to remain focused on their ambitions while pursuing further opportunities through sport.
The donation is part of the footballer’s wider community work beyond professional football. In recent years, he has visited young people and played community football in areas including Tema New Town and Aboabo in Kumasi, where he has shared his experiences and motivated aspiring athletes.
His latest visit also highlighted the challenges faced by para-athletes, who often compete with limited resources and receive less public attention.
Ayew’s contribution adds to efforts to support grassroots sport and increase opportunities for athletes across Ghana.
