Karim Zito credits hard work for Kotoko resurgence

Asante Kotoko head coach Abdul Karim Zito has attributed his side’s recent upturn in form to increased intensity and discipline on the training ground.

The Porcupine Warriors endured a difficult start to the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League season, a run that placed the coach under serious pressure.

That narrative is now changing, with Kotoko gradually regaining confidence following the return of several key players from injury.

Their renewed momentum was evident on Sunday as they cruised to a convincing 3-0 victory over Basake Holy Stars FC.

Goals from Samba O’Neil, Albert Amoah and Kwame Opoku underlined a dominant performance that strengthened their title push.

Kotoko have now lost just once in their last six league matches, though recent outings have produced one win and two draws.

Speaking after the game, Zito pointed to improved work rate and sharper sessions as the foundation of the revival.

“It’s hard work, we increased the tempo of the training to higher level. Because, after this, there is no opportunity again.”

“So, we have to go all out and execute our plan.”

“Why not, we still have our eyes set on the league title. Its reaming 14 matches and we can do it.”

Kotoko climbed to third with 35 points, eight behind leaders Medeama SC ahead of a trip to Hearts of Lions.
