Black Stars defender Tariq Lamptey has been dealt a crushing blow after Fiorentina confirmed he has suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his left knee.
The 24-year-old sustained the injury just 22 minutes into his first start for the Viola in Sunday’s Serie A clash against Como at the Artemio Franchi Stadium.
Scans on Monday confirmed the worst fears, ruling Lamptey out for several months in what is expected to be a season-ending setback.
The news is a major disappointment for the right-back, who joined Fiorentina in the summer with hopes of reviving his club career, as well as for Ghana, with vital 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers on the horizon next month.
Fiorentina, who opened the scoring through Rolando Mandragora, went on to lose 2-1 after second-half goals from Marc-Oliver Kempf and Dutch-born Ghanaian forward Jayden Addai handed Como a dramatic stoppage-time victory.
Lamptey’s latest injury adds to a frustrating history of fitness problems that have hampered his progress at both club and international level.
