Black Queens coach Kim Lars Bjorkegren has expressed  unwavering confidence in the team ahead of their crucial showdown with Tanzania, drawing inspiration from their spirited display against Mali in their second group stage match.

Ghana, seeking to rebound from a disheartening start to the 2024 Women’s African Cup of Nations (WAFCON) where they suffered a defeat at the hands of South Africa in their opening game, and settled for a draw with Mali in the second group stage match, are eager to earn their first win in the tournament.

Speaking at the pre-match press conference, Kim Lars lauded the resilience and combative spirit exhibited by Ghana in their opening two matches, despite succumbing to a narrow loss to defending champions South Africa and drawing against Mali.

“We’re having a good feeling. Of course we worked hard for the three points in the previous game, so we were a little bit disappointed with just one point. We think that we deserved more, but in the end of the day the most important were probably to get at least one point.”

Ghana had pushed Mali to the limit, taking an early lead and dominating periods of the game, even though they ultimately came away with just one point.

The upcoming clash against Tanzania is now pivotal, with both teams contending for a spot in the next stage of the competition.Kim believes the Black Queens’ fate remains in their own hands and they are ready to do everything possible to progress to the next stage of the tournament.

“Now we have everything in our own hands and we’ll make sure to win the game tomorrow.”

The Black Queens will face Tanzania on Monday in a do-or-die encounter as they hope to revive their campaign.
