Asante Kotoko SC secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Accra Lions, maintaining their unbeaten start in the ongoing Ghana Premier League.
During the first half at the Obuasi Len Clay Sports Stadium, Kotoko dominated possession but squandered several chances, leaving the game goalless at halftime.
However, three minutes in the second half, Albert Amoah broke the deadlock, finding the back of the net and securing all three points for the hosts.
Accra Lions fought back in the last 15 minutes, creating several chances including Musa Hamzata who came close to leveling the score, but Kotoko goalkeeper Frederick Asare made a crucial save.
Michael Kyei Dwamena nearly added a second for Kotoko, but Daniel Afful’s defensive effort kept the score at 1-0.
Following the loss, Accra Lions sit 14th in the league with just four points and face Berekum Chelsea in Accra for their next fixture.
Asante Kotoko, now at the top of the table with 11 points after five matches, will look to continue their unbeaten run as they take on struggling Legon Cities in their next match at the University of Ghana Stadium.
