Karela United emerged victorious over Legon Cities in the Ghana Premier League on Sunday afternoon.
The domestic top-flight returned this weekend after 52-days hiatus due to the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, where Ivory Coast emerged as winners.
Today, Karela United hosted Legon Cities at the Naa Sheriga Sports Centre and made their home advantage count after inflicting a 2-0 win over their opponent.
The first half of the game ended in a pulsating goalless draw, as both teams struggled to find the back of the net in the much-anticipated encounter.
Unfortunately for Legon Cities, the team was reduced to 10-man after just 25 minutes into the game when Samuel Tenedu was giving the marching orders. The visitors had to play the remaining 65 minutes with 10-man.
Taking full advantage of the situation, Karela United dominated in the remaining minutes and ensured their secure the three maximum points in the encounter.
Solomon Aboagye opened the floodgate for Karela United just three minutes into the second half of the game before Fatawu Mohammed sealed victory in the 84th minute mark.
Karela United have now moved out of the relegation zone after snatching victory in the week 18 of the top-flight. They are currently 14th on the league table with 20 points. Meanwhile, Legon Cities find themselves on the 11th position with 24 points after 18 matches.
