National Sports Authority Director General Professor Peter Twumasi has assured the public that his outfit will cover the pitch of any stadium set to hold a social event.
Professor Twumasi gave this assurance at the ongoing Parliament of Ghana Public Accounts Committee session monitored by Footballghana.com
He was asked by the committee what his outfit is doing to make sure our pitches are not destroyed when social events are held.
Before he answered the question a Director at the National Sports Authority spoke about the solution and the Sports Minister told the committee he had spoken to Professor Twumasi about covering the pitches several times but he doesn’t listen to him.
Hon. Mustapha Ussif then told the committee to ask Professor Peter Twumasi if he will do it or not.
Chief Director NSA: “Mr Chairman I think there is a technology that we can apply to ensure that monies that they pay to us will not be able to rejuvenate the field. We will be in a better position in a way that they will not be spoilt. Now we have some carpets that you can put on the grass and no matter how they step on the grass it will not be destroyed in a manner beyond redemption if I may put it that way. So that is what we should apply,”
Sports Minister Hon. Mustapha Ussif: “Chairman yes it is something that we are considering and I have engaged the Director General several times that any time they are going to use…there is any activity we are not asking the authority not to allow social events to take place on the field. But if the need be and they are going to do so this is a global practice you cover the field and when ask they say the field is covered but at the end of the day it is not covered and the damage is done. So he has to give us assurance that if he is…because he gives the approval for the social events to take place. If any social event is going to take place on the field the field has to be covered nationwide. If he can give the assurance to the committee I will be grateful,”
NSA Director General Peter Twumasi: “Yes Honorable Chair Yes I will do that (cover the pitch). We do have materials for covering except that my Chief Director indicated there are better technologies that can cover and serve better than what we have now,”
