Real Madrid are preparing to activate their buy-back clause for Como defender Jacobo Ramon, with the 21-year-old expected to return to the Spanish club next summer.
The decision is understood to be part of the club’s response to Jose Mourinho’s request for reinforcements in central defence and midfield. Real Madrid officials had previously viewed the signing of Ibrahima Konate as sufficient to strengthen their defence, but the club now appears to be acting on the manager’s wider plans.
According to Sport, citing transfer expert Matteo Moretto, Real Madrid will pay less than 9 million euros to bring Ramon back. That figure is lower than amounts suggested in other reports.
Although the defender’s return is considered settled, it does not guarantee that he will remain at Real Madrid once the transfer window closes. The club will have to decide whether to promote him into the first-team squad or sell him and take advantage of the rise in his value.
Como paid only 2.5 million euros to sign Ramon in July 2025. Since then, his market value has continued to increase and is currently estimated at 45 million euros by Transfermarkt.
Ramon has impressed under manager Cesc Fabregas, and Real Madrid have continued to monitor his progress closely since his departure. Bringing him back for a comparatively modest fee would give the club the option of retaining a promising defender or selling him for a significant profit.
The player already has experience of representing Real Madrid and has scored at the Santiago Bernabeu. He made six appearances for the club, scoring once during the 2024-2025 season.
That goal secured a hard-fought late victory against Mallorca and remains his only goal for Real Madrid to date.
Ramon has since established himself at Como, where he has made 49 appearances. His performances have shown that he offers more than defensive ability, with the centre-back also contributing in attack after scoring five goals for the Italian side.
Real Madrid’s decision will therefore depend on whether the club believes he is ready to compete for a place in the first team or whether his increased market value makes a sale the preferred outcome.
