Former Ghana captain Andre Ayew has donated money to the national amputee football team, the Black Challenge, and encouraged the players before their appearance at the 2026 Amputee Football World Cup in Mexico.
Ayew visited the team during a training session, offering his support as the squad continues preparations for its first major challenge on the world stage. The amount of his donation has not been disclosed.
“I’m here to support and give you all the love and power that I can give you, and to wish you great luck. I hope that you guys will bring us a medal, but the gold will be better,” Ayew told the players.
The former Black Stars captain’s message set an ambitious target for the team, while his contribution highlighted the importance of backing athletes who represent Ghana in the national colours.
The Black Challenge will compete in the tournament from 13 to 22 November 2026 in San Juan de los Lagos, Mexico. Ghana have been placed in Group D with Angola, Colombia and Iraq, among 24 national teams competing for the title.
Ayew’s visit has added to the support surrounding the team as preparations intensify. It has also drawn attention to the need for continued investment in athletes with disabilities and the opportunities available to them within Ghanaian sport.
For the Black Challenge, the World Cup represents a chance to compete for international success while promoting greater inclusion in sport. The team’s campaign will also give Ghana an opportunity to celebrate athletes representing the country at the highest level of amputee football.
The squad’s preparations now enter a crucial period before the tournament in Mexico. Support from businesses, institutions, sporting officials and the wider public will be important in helping the team build a strong platform for its ambitions.
Ayew has offered both a personal contribution and the encouragement of a former national captain as the Black Challenge prepares to carry Ghana’s flag into the competition.
For the team, the message remains simple: one flag and one dream as Ghana stands behind the Black Challenge.
