Ghana had entered the semi-final after an unbeaten group-stage campaign. Kasim Mingle’s side finished top of Group A with seven points from their three matches.
They began the competition with a 1-0 victory over Togo, before producing a stronger attacking display to beat Benin 3-1.
A goalless draw with hosts Burkina Faso in their final group match completed an unbeaten run and secured their place in the last four.
Their semi-final against Ivory Coast, known as the Young Elephants, changed significantly in the 18th minute when Ghana were reduced to 10 players.
Daniel Owusu was sent off, forcing the Black Starlets to play the rest of the match with a numerical disadvantage.
Ghana responded by keeping Ivory Coast from scoring before half-time. Despite being a player down, they reached the interval with the score still 0-0.
The pressure eventually told in the second half, however, as Ivory Coast found the decisive goal in the 77th minute.
Ghana were unable to produce an equaliser, allowing Ivory Coast to advance to the final and bringing the Black Starlets’ campaign to an end.
The defeat also rules Ghana out of the 2027 U-17 Africa Cup of Nations. The team will now have to wait for another opportunity to return to the continental youth competition.
