Black Princesses head coach Yusif Basigi said he expected the Senegal 2023 African Games semifinal game to be tough and it proved him right.
The Ghana U20 women’s national team picked a convincing 3-1 win over their West African opponents despite Basigi’s comments.
Speaking after the game at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium on Monday night, the experienced women’s football coach said he knew Senegal were eager to avoid a third straight defeat to his team.
“Once we qualify for the semi-final, we expected a tough game because we’ve beaten them before and I know they are not going to allow us to beat them for a third time.
“So I envisaged that it was going to be a tough match.”
In the game, Tracey Twum gave Ghana the lead after just 18 minutes before Ophelia Serwaa Amponsah doubled the lead on the stroke of halftime.
The Teranga Lionesses were given a lifeline minutes into the second half as they scored from the penalty spot.
The two-goal lead was restored shortly for Yusif Basigi’s side with Amponsah scoring from a rebound to record a brace in the game.
Ghana will now face Nigeria in the final on Thursday.
